Documentary Funding Proposals

-------------------------------------------------------------------

What’s Your Story?

The focus of this leading-edge workshop is showing how to link the many necessary parts – from inception, through creative, technology and production, to traditional or digital distribution and real world business development.  These are the elements that will make your funding proposal rise above all the rest.

The agenda for this brand of storytelling covers more than 50 items.  Each is offered in a way that shows how to be a winner in the specific category, yet still blend them all into a meld that guarantees continuity and continuous improvement.

Hello!  What’s Your Story?  Start with the concept.  Then perhaps personal, history, journalism, entertainment, corporate, advertising, military or even custom-built.

What Is Digital Storytelling?

If your associates can’t relate to Digital Storytelling as a genre, try Multimedia, Multiplatform, Transmedia, Webisodes, Branded Content, Branded Entertainment or even Native Advertising.  We offer these and many subcategories in the Thornhill Digital Storytelling inventory.

Are you expected to integrate digital assets into your documentary funding proposal?  If you, your organization, office or company are planning a film, television show, radio special, Internet presentation or an interactive photo essay, the answer is yes!

To create a digital documentary using a competitive, multiplatform model, your timeline could be 3 years.  Also, expect that your expenses might creep to $2 Million or more.

As we each grow beyond web sites, social media and blogs, Digital Storytelling is turning into a hotbed for collaborative development and ever-expanding production crews.  Team members learn from one another and your end product gains from the combined intellect, energy and projections.  This too, means greater expenses.

At the seminar, each participant will receive:

·         TDS NEWS, our detailed tutorial.

·         The Thornhill Digital Storytelling “50 Steps To Documentary Success” checklist and

up-to-date industry examples and news links.

·         The publication lists “Everyday Resources” a slate of industry stalwarts providing no-cost,

e-mailed, daily information reports on individuals, companies and trends in digital media.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

With so much to consider, we determined that a model for transmedia development could serve our participants very well.  The title for our example is “What Are You Wearing New Year’s Eve?”  As a start, the outline begins with research, allows for fleshing out the concept, a riveting love story, then moving on to the first script.

With these in hand, the search is on for a creative crew to take the story into production.

From our list of possible properties, we start with radio, then fashion photography and top it off with a clever music soundtrack.  The full workplan will be covered in our seminar!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Ask About The Maui Video Marketplace Concept

Our marketplace concept brings together all parts needed to build a film, a broadcast special or a production studio and collaborative cluster of film-related businesses to grow the region.

We start with a seminar series and publications. From Internet applications to digital television to digital channels, your career in the industry will be given a major boost by participating in the Thornhill Digital Storytelling seminar.

We can provide access to information supporting the global transition from analog to digital product distribution.

The Maui Video Marketplace will grow from an idea to a location for training, educating clients and developing proprietary and contract media products.  The choices will include live events, classes, print media, audio and radio, video and television, digital and Internet, plus theatre and film industry connections.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC)

When the Center opened the distinctive gates on its new performing arts complex

in 1994, it was the culmination of a 30-year dream for the Maui community.  This is

a gathering place where the community can celebrate creativity in personal and shared

experiences of the arts; It’s a world-class facility where popular and innovative

performing artists can be enjoyed ... connecting our community to the world;

It’s an educational resource, serving all ages from pre-school to adult,

enhancing arts education in schools and professional development for

teachers; It’s an exhibit space for visual artists from Hawai‘i, North America

and beyond; It’s a multi-disciplinary complex offering dance studio,

meeting room and function spaces for the community-at-large.

This multi-tiered program will be presented, in association with Boone, Inc., headed by our friend, the very ambitious Darla Boone.  Darla will be ably assisted by her very capable entourage

This year has started with a bang.  We believe that the way to great success is through collaboration.  We also believe that a powerful way to get to know potential partners is through regular, comfortable exchange sessions.

Everything we do is based on starting small, thinking big and making things work better through continuous improvement.

Each element also boasts a commitment to input from others in a variety of ways.  Our favorite is hosting or co-hosting small events.  We even have a salon each Wednesday to go through our inventory of other small events.

In each business unit, new and old, of our structure, the basic concept or product is supported by a strong step-by-step process.   The first item on the list is (1) a description, then (2) a document, then (3) a starter event.

The event can be a meeting, social gathering, brainstorming, seminar or even a formal salon.  Usually, the gathering is small, with 2 to 12 folks in attendance.  If this blossoms into a series – or schedule of events – considerations are given for management, venues, hospitality and sometimes registration.

I am pleased to report that in my advance copy of Fast Company Magazine the publisher presents February 2013 as The Creative Conversations Issue of the monthly.

The cover lines include “How creative dialogue can reinvent your company, brand and career”, “10 BUSINESS CONVERSATIONS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD” and “Chatter That Matters From: Twitter, Absolut, Pixar, Facebook, Adidas, Red Bull, Starbucks, Google, Square and Target.”

After a fascinating sit-down with the magazine, I can heartily suggest that you might do the same.

Because we deliver seminars around the United States, scheduling is very important.  Soon there will be an online presence dedicated to the master schedule.

I am convinced that creating a solid base, scheduling the details, understanding that continuous improvement is a great model for product development and that collaboration amongst smart partners is the path to an enduring success.

Scheduling

There will be weekly scheduling meetings to single-file the dates for ongoing meetings, seminars, reviews and presentations.  Based on the elements now assembled, a calendar of events could be beneficial.  We are now in print.  Soon we will have a “Scheduling” partner, and after that an “Automated Scheduling” structure.

Here are a few travel events that will be included.
January                        Kihei, Maui County
February                      New York
February                      Palm Desert
February                      Los Angeles
March                          Miami
April                            Chicago
June                             Washington, D.C.
July                              New York

A Special Note:  I will be out of the office for most of Week 3.  Our events and meetings schedule will resume Wednesday, January 23, 2013.  Of course other communications, including this series will continue with weekly publications.

Financial Planning

Conservative financials and ever-evolving revenue opportunities suggest that our plan is built on solid ground.

The Digital Landscape

Almost every company, organization, school, artist and entrepreneur will think this year about their basic technology and equipment for access.  For us, this is our Digital Landscape.  With many changes afoot, think about “Program Integration” for existing and new devices.

Our enterprise wide, common platform will be a universe of Apple, Google or Microsoft products.  With months thus far looking at each, we have come to a time of decision-making.  If this is truly going to be a 2013 rollout – we better get busy.

Communications

We expect constant interaction with our crew, audiences and the market by freely distributing our chart (flyer), through our public blog and maintaining an active mailing list.  For events, Eventbrite, the on-line registration service serves us well.

If you would like to know more – send a note to my attention.
